From the Washington Post:
Along with juggling Movember duties and actually playing hockey, Alzner has other things on his mind lately. He and his wife are expecting their first child in about four weeks, likely during a home stretch.
“I would try to make it work as best as I can to make it there for the birth. To some people it’s really important, and it’s important to me, but I have a little streak going which is also quite important,” Alzner smirked, referring to his consecutive-games played streak of 309, one of the tops among Caps defenseman but still well behind Bobby Carpenter’s team record of 422. “I don’t even know the exact number, but all I know is that I’m two behind [John Carlson]. I don’t care about the overall record, I’m just trying to catch him.”
“Maybe he should be home for the week that his child is born,” Carlson said, while stating Alzner has tried convincing him to sit for the most minor of injuries, but only to get the team record for a defenseman.
